Ethiopia and Malawi – two countries near and dear to my heart – have achieved Millennium Development Goal #4 of reducing the mortality rate of under-5 children by two-thirds. According to a recent progress report issued by UNICEF, the WHO, and the World Bank, there has been a 67% reduction in U-5 mortality rates in Ethiopia from 1990 to 2012 and a nearly 70% reduction in Malawi over the same period. Bangladesh, Liberia, Nepal and Tanzania have also achieved MDG #4 ahead of the 2015 deadline.
